Muse - Supermassive Black Hole
This might just be my favorite track from Black Holes & Revelations. Which reminds me, I need to get that album back on my computer. I can’t remember why it’s missing. (rb)
Ryan Adams - New York, New York
Great song.
I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Ryan Adams, but I’ve enjoyed nearly all of his singles over the years. Next to the original, his cover of Oasis’ Wonderwall is unbelievably amazing. (rb)
“Upon learning of his son’s death, the elder Mr. Alipour was told the family had to pay an equivalent of $3,000 as a “bullet fee”—a fee for the bullet used by security forces—before taking the body back, relatives said.”
Essentially, we killed your son for standing at an intersection. Now, before we give you his body, you have to pay us for the bullet we shot into his head.
Un-freakin’-believable.
The Enemy - No Time For Tears
I freakin’ love this song. The lyrics are simple but the track is complex.
Take a listen if you’re a fan of new alternative rock type music.
In the States, this UK band is more commonly known as “The Enemy UK.” I just couldn’t bring myself to include the “UK.”
The Shins - Australia
I know I lose some major cool points for saying this, but the film Garden State introduced me to this band. So, being a relative newbie to their music, Wincing the Night Away is the only CD of theirs I have. Although I have nothing else really to compare it to, I must say it’s an amazing album.
“‘Till the day we come in doing cartwheels / we all crawl out by ourselves…” (rb)
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
It’s hard to believe this track was first released over 10 years ago.
Chris Martin said that this is “probably the greatest song ever written.” I’m not sure about that, but it’s a brilliant tune and definitely another one of my favorite songs of all time. (rb)
The Gossip - Are You That Somebody
At first I couldn’t imagine how Beth Ditto could take this Aaliyah song and create a cover version worth listening to. I almost didn’t bother listening, but boy am I glad I did.
Love this. Really looking forward to The Gossip’s new album, Music For Men, which is dropping next week. If you haven’t heard the first single from it, Heavy Cross, click here.
