Vince Guaraldi Trio - The Christmas Song
(Track 5 / IMSvsIMS’ Festive Five / 2009)

Given the song I posted on Christmas Day last year, I thought I would post a more “traditional” track to finish up my Festive Five for 2009. As you know, I’m not a big fan of traditional Christmas music, but anything by the Vince Guaraldi Trio doesn’t count.

I hope everyone is having (or has had) an epicly awesome day. You guys have honestly helped make this past year one I will not soon forget. Thank you.

Happy Christmas!

Sixpence None the Richer - Carol of the Bells
(Track 4 / IMSvsIMS’ Festive Five / 2009)

The fourth track of my 2009 Festive Five is a reimagined version of my favorite Christmas carols. While I’ve never been a huge fan of this band, the album this track comes from, The Dawn of Grace, is really, really unique and enjoyable.

Today’s track of this year’s Festive Five is one part slightly depressing and two parts unbelievably beautiful. Give it a listen and, if you like it as much as I do, check out the amazing video that accompanies it.

Happy Festivus!

Jack’s Mannequin - The Lights and Buzz
(Track 2 / IMSvsIMS’ Festive Five / 2009)

Continuing on with my Festive Five, here is a holiday track that I stumbled upon just a few days ago.

Not only is this an epic track, it also has an interesting story behind it- In June 2005, Andrew McMahon, the lead singer of Jack’s Mannequin, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This was the first song written and recorded by Andrew, in October of the same year, following a successful bone marrow transplant where his sister served as the donor.

“It’s good to be alive…”

Sufjan Stevens - Hey Guys! It’s Christmas Time!
(Track 1 / IMSvsIMS’ Festive Five / 2009)

Having had a blast doing this last year, I thought I would do it again this year. That’s right, it’s time for my 2009 Festive Five!

If you weren’t following me this time last year you’re probably thinking, “what the hell is this guy talking about?” Well, simply put, from now until Christmas Day, for five days total, I will post a Holiday track that I enjoy with the hope that all of you guys will too. Together, the five tracks I’m going to post make a pretty sweet EP if I do say so myself.

It should be noted, as you can see from today’s track, I’m not a huge fan of how “traditional” Christmas music sounds. (Hell, I’m not even a huge fan of Christmas in general, but that’s another story…) While I do enjoy a few of the classics, I am more likely to find holiday comfort in a newly created song or a reimagined version of an old one.

By the way, if you like any of the tracks I post over the next five days, email me and I’ll share a copy of it with you. (I would honestly love to give you something since you have all made this past year one I will not soon forget, so a track or five is the least I can do.)

Alright, alright… enough rambling. Enjoy’self!
